The private psychotherapy practice of Ellen Sophis Gillespie, LICSW in Lexington, MA

What is therapy?

“Psychotherapy,” “talk therapy” or just plain “therapy” is a process of opening up about your life experiences and exploring your genuine thoughts and feelings in order to increase self-awareness of psychological and emotional conflicts that keep you stuck in unwanted patterns. Psychotherapy can be a profoundly transformative experience for those who are curious about their worries, insecurities, and relational struggles. By creating a respectful, non-judgmental, and collaborative relationship, we will develop a greater understanding and acceptance of you and with the goal of living a more gratifying and meaningful life.

What is LexIntegrative Psychotherapy, LLC’s approach to therapy?

My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in my fundamental belief that people heal in relationships, rather than through one specific kind of therapy. I take a client-centered approach to my practice, integrating principles that target acute symptoms with skills-based interventions while addressing underlying dynamics through insight-oriented work to promote lasting change and growth. Inherently empathic, you and I will develop a shared language through which we help you achieve a deeper understanding of yourself and your world.

How can therapy benefit me?

Psychotherapy is one of the best ways to treat psychological problems. While you may present to therapy to work on a specific issue (depression, anxiety, relationship problems), that is certainly not the only reason to pursue psychotherapy. Therapy is also excellent for you if you are curious about understanding more about yourself and how your unique perspectives are filtered through your personality.

What happens at my first appointment?

I endeavor to make sure all patients feel welcome, safe, and comfortable upon entering my office.  The first 1-2 appointments are consultation assessments, during which we will explore what you’re hoping to get out of psychotherapy and survey your personal and family history. After the initial consultations, we will come together to decide if we want to move forward and work together.
